Shelley's a Whiz with the Kids.

Seven days a week, Shelley's motor is running at breakneck speed.

Yet she faithfully carves out one afternoon per week to passionately pursue to her community service activity - working with children to enrich their lives through the performing arts.

Every Tuesday she's in town, Shelley volunteers at Whiz Kids. This non-profit organization pairs adult tutors with students who show high academic promise but come from at-risk environments.

At the John P. Parker School in Cincinnati, Shelley and fellow volunteer Jane Florer lead interactive classes in music and drama.

"As a three-year volunteer with over 500 hours of volunteer service, I derive great satisfaction from teaching creative dramatics to kids who are starving for ways to express their feelings and talent," Shelley says.

This year, Shelley and Jane have focused on music from THE SOUND OF MUSIC and YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN. They have also taught the children how to sing in rounds with classics such as 'Make New Friends', 'Sing, Sing Together' and 'Row Row Row Your Boat.'

"The children love pantomime and acting scenes, especially the ones they create. The kids are great dancers, and keep us on our toes. The children even wrote their own lyrics to 'My Favorite Things' from THE SOUND OF MUSIC," Shelley explains.

Whiz Kids of Cincinnati is now completing its 4th year. More than 1000 volunteers in 25 locations serve over 700 students.

"The two most important factors that help children escape a life of poverty are a good education and relationships with caring adults. Whiz Kids provides both," Shelley adds.

Observes Jane: "The children are captivated by Shelley. They've never met anyone quite like her."

And Whiz Kid Trucella sums it up best: "We can't wait for Miss Shelley to get here every Tuesday."

On this project, Shelley pulled a Clint Eastwood - producing, directing, and casting herself as the lead in this series of videos. The Time Timer helps businesses, educators, and individuals "make every moment count" in their work and daily life.
